Undergraduate Fees and Expenses

All undergraduate students are liable to pay tuition fees (£ 3,000) to the University for each year of their course. The fees vary according to whether you are an EU or overseas student. In addition, all overseas students (non EU) will have to pay a college fee of approximately £5,700 (fees vary between colleges). More details from the Undergraduate Prospectus.

As well as your tuition fees, you will need to budget for your living expenses. These will vary according to your personal circumstances. As an approximate guide we recommend that EU undergraduate students allow at least £4,370 per full academic year (term time only) for essentials such as accommodation, meals, clothes, books and entertainment. Costs will be higher for overseas students who are unable to return home during vacations and we recommend that undergraduate overseas students allow at least £9,250 for a full twelve month period. More details from the Undergraduate Prospectus.

Please visit this page for more information about finance.

College Fees

College fees are for academic facilities provided by the college and do not include accommodation or meal charges. Each college charges a fee which is separate from, and in addition to, University composition fees. College fees vary from college to college, and according to the course and length of study, but do not distinguish between home, EU, and overseas students. At the time of going to press college fees for full-time graduate students for 2007-8 are not confirmed; there is not expected to be any major change from the range of fees for the full academic year given below:

Maintenance and Living Expenses

As well as allowing for University and college fees, prospective students must budget for living expenses while at Oxford . These vary according to individual needs and tastes; the cost of accommodation is a significant factor, as private rented accommodation in Oxford is more expensive than in many other British cities, particularly for married students. In addition to ordinary living expenses, students need to take account of the cost of food, clothing, other personal requirements, books, stationery, any special equipment, travel to and from Oxford, thesis preparation in appropriate cases, and any research expenses (e.g. fieldwork or travel (possibly outside the United Kingdom) to consult material not available in Oxford).

It must also be born in mind that these costs are liable to rise in line with inflation. Students from other countries should also allow, as regards their whole budget, for the possibility of fluctuations in exchange rates.

For the academic year 2007-8, it is estimated that a single student spending 12 months in Oxford , and living in college accommodation, is likely to need at least £9,750 to cover living expenses, excluding the cost of travel to and from Oxford .
